Oblivion photograph by Lee Cantelon c. 2007

Oblivion came to the studio on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Fountain Avenue. His intensity was electric. He had distilled the chapter from The Words (This Generation) into a prose-rap that reached across generations, poured out in epic breadth, as profound as G. Manly Hopkins in its grasp and message.
I wanted to offer a prayer of thanks then, that such a voice had come to tell this old, and this very new story.

Oblivion brought a friend with him, Theo Little. Dre put Theo behind the microphone to do some background vocals. I came into the studio and asked, "Who is the singing angel?" Dre pointed at Theo. I couldn't believe it. Theo gives wings to the song, and helps carry Oblivion's words out across the sleeping city,
to hearts that are waiting for hope.
